  Rogers Krajnak Architects selected for project at The Ohio State University

The Ohio State University commissioned Rogers Krajnak Architects, Inc. to provide a feasability study and conceptual design for the ARC - Leadership Challenge Campus (LCC). The ARC-LCC will be located adjacent to and within the existing Adventure Recreation Center at The Ohio State University. The LCC will include eight separate courses that provide unique opportunities to enhance the development of leadership skills and physical wellness for individuals and teams. The LCC will include a rappel tower, high ropes course, low ropes course, confidence course, leadership development course and team building activities.

     
  Builders Exchange Magazine features Mid-Ohio Foodbank

Rogers Krajnak Architects’ project for the Mid-Ohio Foodbank was highlighted in the December 2011 issue of Builders Exchange Magazine. The article describes the process of how the project team worked together with the Mid-Ohio Foodbank to renovate an old mattress factory into a 205,000 square foot food bank that annually distributes over 40 million pounds of food.  “The Mid-Ohio Foodbank project represents the perfect synthesis of conservation, sustainability and architectural design that reveals the mission of a facility serving a vital role in our community”- Darryl Rogers, AIA, LEED AP.

Darryl Rogers, AIA, LEED AP provided a testimonial about the benefits of BX membership in the Exchange – the Newsletter of The Builders Exchange of Central Ohio. As a member of The Builders Exchange of Central Ohio, Rogers Krajnak Architects has been strengthening our relationships with other BX members in the construction industry. Darryl participates in an Idea Exchange Group that meets periodically to discuss prevalent issues within engineers, general contractors, subcontractors, suppliers and other industry related representatives. Darryl also lent his expertise to the Builders Exchange of Central Ohio as one of ten judges for the 2011 Builders Exchange of Central Ohio Craftsmanship Awards.

     
  OhioHealth commissions RKA for chapel design

OhioHealth has hired Rogers Krajnak Architects to design the Chapel for the OhioHealth Bing Cancer Center.  This is the eighth chapel/meditation space that RKA has designed for OhioHealth over the last five years.  Visitors to the Bing Cancer Center will enter the chapel between two curved translucent walls that contain images of caregivers integrated with images of worship and prayer from the five major religions of the world.  The largest image is that of a cairn, a stack of stones that symbolizes a marker on the path towards healing..

CAPA has hired Rogers Krajnak Architects for two projects at the Southern Theatre and the Riffe Center Studio Theatre Two. The project at the Southern Theatre is the removal of a former sound control booth and the renovation of that area into additional seating at House Left. The project at the Riffe Center is the addition of new handrails in the aisles of Studio Theatre Two.

     
     
  Rededication of The Church of the Epiphany in Washington DC

On Sunday, 11.06.11, the Rt. Rev. John Bryson Chane presided at the rededication of this historic Episcopal Church in Washington, DC as one of his last acts before his retirement as Bishop of Washington.  The celebration included the rededication of the historic Baptismal Font and the dedication of a new Altar, Ambo and Columbarium designed by Rogers Krajnak Architects. 

The 1858 stone Baptismal Font was relocated to a new place for baptism created at the entrance of the church.  The new chancel was created to accommodate a 32 foot “Renewal” labyrinth (an eight circuit design based on the labyrinth at Chartres Cathedral in France), the new oak Altar and the new oak Ambo.  Beyond the chancel is the Resurrection Chapel a space that includes a new 132 niche Columbarium.        

Interior renovations to the church also included new lighting and sound systems, plaster repair, decorative painting, flooring and new seating.  The renovation of the church included repairs to the exterior tower. Work continues on the renovations to the Parish House which will include new accessible ramps, upgrades to the entrance lobby, new elevator, new accessible restrooms, upgrades to offices and meeting spaces and the creation of a new Epiphany Mission Center.
     
    Marburn Academy Design Charrette

Rogers Krajnak Architects conducted a design charrette with the faculty and staff of Marburn Academy in order to explore potential architectural design concepts for a new facility for Marburn Academy. A design charrette is an interactive design workshop that provides a venue for structured, meaningful, supportive discussion and the exploration of design ideas. By organizing and arranging program pieces (color coded paper cut outs that represent each space) the four teams of participants created four separate design concepts. Each team presented the highlights of their designs as the group reviewed all 16 design concepts.

Darryl Rogers recently lent his expertise to the Builders Exchange of Central Ohio as one of ten judges for the 2011 Builders Exchange of Central Ohio Craftsmanship Awards. The Craftsmanship awards recognize tradespeople who are key innovators and leaders in their fields, from electricians to masons. Winners are awarded based on “innovation, workmanship, and overall quality of the project.” Rogers Krajnak extends its congratulations to the 2011 Craftsmanship Award winners.

COSI has unveiled its new Innovation Showcase: Innovations in Energy, featuring The Mid-Ohio Foodbank, which was designed by Rogers Krajnak Architects. Many aspects of the sustainable design of the foodbank, which achieved LEED Gold, are presented in this interactive exhibit. The Innovation Showcase encourages critical thinking skills regarding energy use.

     
  Renovation of Frank Lloyd Wright Apprentice Designed Residence

Rogers Krajnak Architects has been commissioned to renovate this home in Lancaster, Ohio which was originally designed in 1948 by architect Noverre Musson, an apprentice of Frank Lloyd Wright. The renovation will respect the Usonian architectural principles of the original design while updating the kitchen, study, living room, bedroom and bathrooms. New custom cabinetry, built-in light troughs and mid-century retro appliances will be skillfully integrated into the project.

Rogers Krajnak Architects welcomes Tim Shamblin to the firm.   Tim is a co-op student from the University of Cincinnati College of Design, Architecture, Art and Planning. He is working toward a Bachelors of Science in Architecture with the long-term goal of obtaining a Masters in Architecture.   Tim is very passionate about building on his own skills and knowledge as he embraces the profession of architecture.  He handles a variety of marketing, project and organizational tasks within the firm. When not working, Tim can be found building something, whether it is computers, Lego models, or a good sandwich.

     
  Windows Installed in Kobacker House Chapel

Rogers Krajnak Architects designed the eight new windows that were installed in the Chapel at Kobacker House, a newly constructed OhioHealth hospice. The inspiration for the windows is based on the strong connection that many Kobacker House staff and families have to the existing pear tree at the main entrance of the former Kobacker House. Rogers Krajnak Architects created the artwork for the colorful laminated glass panels that illustrate the beauty of the pear tree in all seasons.

     
  Renovation of historic Washington DC church begins

The renovation of the Sanctuary has begun at The Church of the Epiphany in Washington DC. The organ pipes have been carefully removed in preparation the renovation of this historic church located two blocks east of the White House. The renovation is scheduled to be completed by Christmas.

The Church of the Epiphany in Washington, D.C. commissioned Rogers Krajnak Architects, Inc. to proceed with the design for the renovation of the historic church located two blocks from the White House.  
Based on the 2007 Conceptual Design created by Rogers Krajnak Architects, Inc., the project will include the renovation of the Nave, Transepts, Chancel, Chapel, Parish Hall, Mission Center and Meeting Spaces; improved accessibility - including ramps and a new elevator in the Parish House; updated HVAC and electrical systems; and numerous miscellaneous repairs.
