RKA's renovation of an existing warehouse and distribution facility for the Mid-Ohio Foodbank exceeded the client's goal for Silver certification, and has been awarded LEED Gold by the Green Building Certification Institute. This is the first major renovation or new construction of a food bank awarded LEED Gold in the nation. LEED, established by the U.S. Green Building Council, is the nation's preeminent program for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings. The project met the rigorous requirements for LEED Gold by utilizing advanced systems and materials that reduce the building's energy and water consumption, incorporating recycled and regionally produced materials, selecting low and no VOC finishes, as well as a number of other sustainable strategies. The result is a building whose reduced ecological impact benefits the environment globally, and whose reduced operating costs benefit the community locally, by enabling the Foodbank to direct more of its resources to feeding hungry families and individuals in central Ohio
