FORTY UNDER 40 HONOREE

 

  Darryl Rogers, AIA has been honored as one of the 40 “brightest stars in the AEC universe” as part of the Building Design and Construction's annual 40 under 40 competition. The honorees excel in their professional roles as architects, engineers, contractors, designers and AEC business developers while giving back to their communities and professional societies.

With a passion for building and a family background rooted in the construction industry, Darryl attained a degree in architecture from The Ohio State University and set a course of working with small, midsize and large architectural firms. He has been employed by Wright-Miller & Associates, Maddox NBD, and NBBJ. Darryl became a Registered Architect in the State of Ohio in February of 1995. He established his private practice in 2000 and then created Rogers Krajnak Architects, Inc. in October 2001 when he and Peter Krajnak merged their private architectural practices. Under Darryl's leadership the firm has grown from a small business, which started on the third floor of his home, into a practice with nine staff members.

With Darryl's leadership, Rogers Krajnak Architects, has celebrated the recognition it has received at the local and national level. The firm was awarded the 2003 Liturgical Design Honor Award – Interfaith Forum on Religion Art and Architecture and they were presented with a 2004 AIA Columbus Design Honor Award. Both of these awards were given for a remarkable renovation of a historic church – Trinity Episcopal- in downtown Toledo, Ohio. Recently, Darryl's firm received a national award from the American Institute of Architects for the 2006 AIA/CES Award of Excellence for Continuing Education. This award recognizes Darryl's commitment to mentoring by providing a high quality professional continuing education program to every staff member in the firm. In September of 2006 Darryl was selected as one of the 40 Under 40 Professionals in the Central Ohio Area by Business First, Central Ohio's premier weekly business newspaper.

Darryl is an active member in the American Institute of Architects. He has served on the committee for Young Architects Forum and as a mentor in the OSU Architect/Student Mentor Program. Darryl is also a member of ICC (International Code Council) and a member of the Buckeye Construction Network.

Darryl is very passionate about Columbus and has been actively involved in the community. He was an active member of the Olde Towne East Neighborhood Association and worked hard to decrease crime in the neighborhood and improve the neighborhood for all who lived there. He is an active member of the Rotary Club of Columbus. Darryl has served on the Bexley Area Chamber of Commerce board for the past four years working to improve the business landscape of Bexley. His yearly participation in “Canstruction”, an event which benefits the Mid-Ohio FoodBank, is important to Darryl. Darryl is also a member of the City of Columbus Chamber of Commerce and an active member of the Athletic Club of Columbus.

He works with youth in various ways including being a licensed youth soccer coach for Columbus East Soccer Association and regularly volunteers time with Bexley High School students as part of the Bexley Education Foundation Volunteer Series. Darryl serves as a mentor for student shadowing programs. Darryl has also served as a guest critic at The Ohio State University Knowlton School of Architecture and offers a yearly first year student tour of the firm's offices. Each year, Darryl hosts students from local elementary, middle, and high schools and The Ohio State University School of Architecture in his office as part of their student shadowing programs. In addition to providing his time to youth athletic programs, Darryl's firm also provides team sponsorship to the Columbus East Soccer Association and to area youth baseball programs.

In closing, Darryl G. Rogers, AIA is an architect, a mentor, a coach, a husband, a father of two and a respected professional. He has built an award winning, successful, architectural practice from the ground up over the past 6 years. His unrelenting passion for architecture and the wealth of knowledge he brings to a construction project makes him highly respected by his peers in the industry. In addition to the long hours he has poured into his business, he still finds time to participate in a variety of community activities and in his children's activities. He is committed to working with youth as evidenced by his strong involvement in mentoring and coaching programs. Darryl is very passionate about his business, his employees, his clients, and his community. He gives 100% to everything he does and it shows in the quality relationships he has been able to develop with his friends, clients and business associates.
