WHETSTONE COMMUNITY CENTER
Columbus, OH
<< Back to Project List
This project is the renovation and expansion of a fifty-year old recreation center on North High Street in Clintonville. To increase the visibility of the facility, Rogers Krajnak Architects, Inc. designed the expansion with a new Multi-Purpose Room prominently located in the front yard along High Street. The Multi-Purpose Room's large wrap-around corner windows allow for the public to see the activities occurring within the facility while providing daylight and views from within. The roof above the Multi-Purpose Room is a vegetated roof that contributes to the sustainable design and energy savings for the facility. Another important space in the 9,660 square foot addition is the Community Room. This space, which was funded by a community based fundraising campaign, will accommodate senior activities, parties, community meetings and activities. A new elevator and restrooms contribute to improving the accessibility of the facility. Renovations in the existing building include a new centralized control desk providing line-of-sight monitoring of corridors and entrances, upgraded power, lighting and HVAC systems and new finishes in classrooms, kitchens and offices.
