Private Residence
Bexley, OH
<< Back to Project List
The project was the creation of two additions to this home in Bexley, Ohio. The new two story addition at the front of the home accommodates a family room on the first floor and a master bath and walk-in closet on the second floor. This addition replaces a previous one story box like addition that appeared to be “tacked on” to the original house. Designed to be more in harmony with the original house, the new two-story addition is responsive to the overall massing of the house. We extended the original roof forms and incorporated new stone and horizontal siding on the front façade to match the existing stone and siding. The new addition feels like it was part of the original home.
Although small in footprint, the addition adds significant space to the Master Suite. The Master Bath features a claw foot tub, glass walled shower, vaulted ceiling and is filled with daylight from three windows. The earth toned wall tile and radiant heated floor tile add visual and physical warmth to the space.
At the back of the house, the other addition accommodates a mud room with three custom built-in cubbies that include upper cabinets, bench seating, shoe/boot niches and wall hooks for jackets and backpacks. Across from the cubbies is another built-in closet and base cabinet. The mudroom has a hardwood floor and a vaulted ceiling and provides a primary entrance from to the home from the back yard.
